A MAN and woman are trapped after a light plane rolled while attempting to land at an airstrip in north Queensland.

Police said two people are reportedly pinned underneath the aircraft Starke Airfield in Woodstock near Townsville and were called around 10.30am today.

The man has been flown to Townsville Hospital in a serious condition after emergency services freed the pair using hydraulic cutting tools.

The woman, in her 20s, will be taken via ambulance to Townsville Hospital. She suffered a laceration to her arm and has neck pain, but is otherwise in a stable condition.

QAS Acting senior operations supervisor Linda Reedman said the man is approximately 68 years old and the woman is around 24.

“The incident was a light aircraft that had crashed on landing and tipped at the end of the runway we believe,” Acting senior operations supervisor Linda Reedman said.
