Floodwaters struck the Queensland communities of Atherton and Tolga on Wednesday, January 4, after heavy rain fell over the tablelands for several hours. Parts of Tolga were transformed by the inundation, as shown in footage published at about 9pm. Police were still searching for a man on Thursday, after he went missing in a swelling creek attempting to warn motorists of the dangerous driving conditions, the ABC reported. A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of the Central Coast today while the deluge continues in north Queensland.

The Bureau has warned of heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in Proserpine and Hamilton Island over the next several hours.

Meteorologist Sean Fitzgerald said there was a slight chance of thunderstorms in Brisbane today, but any rain will probably be in the south west suburbs, leaving the city dry.

But north Queensland continues to cop a drenching, with areas inland of Mackay and south Cairns.

Areas inland of Mackay have received 168mm in the last 24 hours. whole areas in land of Cairms recorded 164mm of rain.
