Jimmy Fallon went after Trump
Jimmy Fallon made sure to target the former Apprentice host numerous times during his opening monologue.
Ouch, that’s gotta hurt
“Already you have your Golden Globes moment. This is one of the few places left where America still honors the popular vote,” he said to the audience when he hit the stage.
We certainly will, won’t we!
“Game of Thrones’ is nominated for a ton of awards, and a lot of people have wondered what it would be like if King Joffrey had lived — and in 12 days we’re going to find out,” he continued.
2016 was the worst, right?!
“You might remember Manchester By the Sea as the most depressing movie of 2016, and the only thing more depressing than 2016.”
The 42-year-old also teased the Republican’s struggle to get talent to perform at his inauguration, saying even Meryl Streep’s character in Florence Foster Jenkins would’ve turned it down.
Good one, Jimmy
The Tonight Show host finished his monologue after letting everybody know the votes were calculated by, “Ernst and Young and Putin.”
Way to change the subject, Ryan
Ryan Seacrest and Milo Ventimiglia were chatting about salads and in an attempt to change the subject the E! News host said, “This is Milo and Ryan locker-room talk.”
We love you, Hugh Laurie
Hugh Laurie took a shot at the 70-year-old after winning for his performance in The Night Manager.
“I don’t mean to be gloomy,” he said after joking it was going to be the last Golden Globes ever.
“It’s just it has ‘Hollywood’, ‘foreign’ and ‘press’ in the title. To some Republicans even the word ‘association’ is slightly sketchy,” he continued. “I accept this award on behalf of psychopathic billionaires everywhere.”
Such a classy lady
Fences star Viola Davis opened up about Donald Trump’s pending presidency backstage.
“It’s our responsibility to uphold what it is to be an American and what America is about, the true meaning of what it means to pursue the American dream.”
“We’ve fallen short a lot,” she continued. “Because there is no way that we can have anyone in office that is not an extension of our own belief system. So does what that say about us? If you answer that question. I think that says it all.”
Queen Meryl Streep
Meryl Streep, who accepted the Cecil B. DeMille award, targeted Donald during her acceptance speech and heavily criticized him for making fun of a disabled reporter.
“It broke my heart when I saw it,” she said “I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t a movie, it was real life.”
“And this instinct, to humiliate when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life. Because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing.”
President-elect Donald Trump was the target of nearly every joke and speech at the 2017 Golden Globes.
