For a brief period in the mid-aughts, One Tree Hill stars Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray were the perfect WB couple.

…Until they divorced in 2006. Sophia is finally speaking out about the very public split after a decade of silence.

“In my 20s, when I was starting out my career as an actor, I wasn’t looking for a relationship,” she writes in Cosmopolitan.

“But one found me and became serious, even though I hadn’t planned to settle down until my 30s.”

Although the 34-year-old wasn’t searching for a ring, she had an unexpected reaction to her then-beau’s proposal.

“But when the person you’re with asks you to marry him, you think: This must be happening because it’s supposed to,” the Chicago P.D. star continues.

Sadly, things didn’t work out the way Sophia had planned.

“The reality is that, yes, it was a massive event in my life,” she continued of her short-lived marriage with her OTH co-star.

Sophia and Chad —  or Brooke and Logan, depending on whom you ask —  married in April 2005 and announced their breakup a mere five months later in September 2005.

The timing of the split made it all the more terrible for the TV starlet.

“The trauma of [the breakup] was amplified by how public it became, which was incredibly foreign and bizarre to a girl who’d been just another college kid 24 months before her life blew up,” Sophia confesses.

Still, the NBC beauty managed to brush herself off and find romance again.

“Luckily, I had a guy friend who was truly supportive and encouraged me to examine all aspects of my reality,” the brunette reveals.

“After a year, and our mutual friends always asking why we weren’t dating, we realized they were all on to something.”

Does that mean this relationship went the distance?

Nope, it did not. But, the CW alum isn’t upset about the so-called “failed” partnership.

“Well, this particular relationship was just a season, but still, it was life shaping. It truly was my space to heal,” she explains.

(Why?)
